Since many of Fallout 4's best weapons tend to be hidden behind a quest or locked away, it's all too easy to overlook them even years after the game's initial release. Here are the most powerful weapons in Fallout 4 and where to find them without much fuss.

25 kriolator
The Cryolator is one of the most unique weapons in the game, and as the name suggests, it freezes everything it comes across. While this weapon is not actually available until later in the game, it is actually revealed to the player within the first ten minutes of the game once they have leveled their lock picking skills to Maestro.in Vault 111in a closed cabinet.
Unfortunately, like many rare weapons, the criolator's downside is a lack of ammo. You should add a crystallization barrel mod to make sure you don't run out of cryo rounds and also give you some extra range. Still, it's more of a show weapon than a truly effective one, as the crystals' projectile speed is incredibly slow.

Make your way to Dunwich Borers, home to a shadowy cult that seems to have taken root there. The machete is at the end of a small tunnel where you will find a mysterious looking altar.

Still in the best melee weapons category, if there's one thing Bethesda loves to do, it's cross reference between their games. This Elder Scrolls-themed ax is exactly the kind of Easter egg you'd expect from Bethesda, and for a melee weapon it's actually not too bad. In addition to being stunned by Grognak's axe, enemies will also take bleed damage.
The hatchet is very easy to find in downtown Boston. Go to Hubris Comics and the ax is hidden in a glass case behind the reception desk of the place. To unlock it, you need to have advanced lock picking skills or let Cait open the case for you.

Machine guns are generally a terrible weapon choice, but if that's part of your character build, at least go for this unique variant, Ashmaker, which also powers up its targets for some extra points of damage. Old Faithful is a laser pistol (unless you're a high-level player, it converts to a rifle) that you can easily buy from Arturo Rodriguez in Diamond City. Old Faithful introduces the Instigator perk, which deals double damage to enemies at full health.
Since almost every fight in Fallout 4 starts against enemies that are at full health, it's nice to have a reliable way to deal a lot of damage early on as an opening move.

With Righteous Authority, your critical strikes deal double damage and fill your critical strike gauge 15% faster. It's worth the trip even if you don't like Brotherhood of Steel just for the crit effects.

The Party Starter is a rocket launcher that can be purchased from KL-E-O, the Assaultron vendor in Goodneighbor. Also deals additional damage against enemies in human form.
A common disadvantage of rocket launchers is that the ammunition is heavy and you have to reload between shots. However, with the right modifications, these warnings can also be remedied quite easily. It's a wonderful niche weapon for those fun niche character builds, and it packs a punch.
10 Superintendent's Guard
The Overseer's Sentinel features a penetrating receiver and night vision goggles, both ideal for taking down pesky armored enemies at long range.

Two different variants of this can appear in the game, one with a short barrel and one with a long barrel. As a bonus, it still fires an extra round per shot, potentially doubling its damage. To get it, head to Vault 81 and talk to Alexis Combes, the local merchant.
9 Wastelander's Friend
Wastelander's friend is visually good for a laugh, but also surprisingly useful. It is a standard 10mm pistol with a super long extended magazine.
Gives the weapon an ammo capacity of 24 out of 8, meaning three times as many shots before reloading. It also includes a few other mods like a recon visor and a fist. If that sounds like your cup of tea, go to Bunker Hill and find a vendor named Deb.
8 LeFusil Terrible
Le Fusil Terribles is a particularly powerful combat shotgun that can be found in Libertalia in the northeast of the Commonwealth. Go to the captain's cabin, which is at the end of the floating camp and has the largest building in view.
The shotgun has a special effect that deals 25% increased damage to enemies overall, in addition to damage to limbs. It also has much more massive recoil, possibly upwards depending on your aiming skills, which can make it quite annoying to handle. Still, it's the best shotgun in Fallout 4.

Each consecutive shot deals more damage to the same target. It's one of the best made rifles in the game and a really solid choice. With enough money, it's also easy to buy from Aaron Corbett in the Nuka-Town market. Just be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for it unless you have decent charisma to bring the price down.
